So, I have become completely enthralled with light painting and light graffiti images and video….We are using this technique as the “look and feel” for Thin Line Film Fest 2008. There have been several major commercials made with light drawing as savvy ad people have become hip to this emerging art form…..
Light Graffiti is an extension of the traditional Graffiti culture. The urban resistance, fashion, music, and socio-political concepts that have been so well explored through the hip-hop and graffiti culture has a new face and a new technology. While painted Graffiti may last longer on the side of a building, it is illegal in most places and can result in arrest etc… With Light Graffiti as long as you are not trespassing on private property you are completely on “the right side of the law”. This will take all the fun out of it for some people, but for the rest of us it provides an infinitely creative outlet for urban action.
There is also a fine art consideration to this technique commonly referred to as light painting. This is not a new trick. Long exposure techniques are obviously nothing new, but the images created by some of today’s modern light painting artists are simply amazing and novel.
