Today

I realized I have done precious little blogging about anything audio related. So today I will try to rectify that.

Currently, I am 3 months into season 6 of Animal Cops Houston doing the location audio with my fellow audio guy J.R…..I am running around Houston and the surrounding Counties with a 30lb bag on my shoulders, holding a boom pole over my head, blinking sweat into my eyes, and generally dealing with extreme heat and exigent animal circumstances.  It is great fun, but also a physical challenge.

In any “reality” show there are always unexpected situations that challenge your skills, especially when you are dealing with animals.  So the crucial points are to stay hydrated, stay alert, keep the sunscreen on, and don’t pet the pit bulls!

For you audio dorks (like me) we are using Cooper Cs104 mixers, Micron wireless mics, and MKH60 shotgun mics…..Also I have switched to using the Shure 210 earbuds from the Sony 7506’s because they are lighter and significantly cooler in this heat.  As an added bonus I can wear safari hats with them as I hate wearing baseball caps. There are some drawbacks, but they are working well. If I wanted I could get this hat to wear with the Sony’s.  I am also using the PEGZ-2 audio bag with a Versa-Flex Harness.  I like the PEGZ-2, but I wish Petrol would make a PEGZ-2F so I could have the mixer “forward”…..like this design on the PEGZ-1F.
